Anyone have a picture or know of a stand design that I can build out of wood which will allow me to work upright on the outboards I've collected?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Joe

Re: Need outboard stand design

I used the plans in the previous post to build mine. It works very well. I had a 150 mounted to it and handled it no problem. I added a couple things to mine. I put 2 ea 2x4s between the forward 2x4s for support for the 1/2" plywood that I have over the front. Also, added a small box that attaches to the top side of stand made from scrap 2x4s and the bottom of the box from left over 1/2" plywood. The addition of the front plywood allows you to stand on the front more easily while you work on the motor also works well for holding large parts. i.e. block, crankshaft, etc. I also put 360* swivel casters on all 4 for added mobility(maybe stick with the plans for lightweight motors or large garages)

it's nice and strong with my 180lb evinrude 50 on it. i did make the uprights 4 inches longer than his plans to accomodate the tall lower unit.

very satisfied.

And...it's expandable. Recently lengthened mine to 60 inches so I can hang two Big Twins and a little Merc...now I need a bigger shop.

Mine is dolly style with larger wheels for running them around outside on soft ground.
