I have a mercruiser that I'm pretty sure now that it is a 470-488 and I needs tune parts, points and condencer, etc. These appear to be delco-chevy parts. Can I just get points for a older chevy and use .I have no spark and I've cleaned the points, they were closing. I hot wired the coil and no spark so I will probably put a new coil on,it has a screw on wire cab.

A set of points from another simmilar distributor may work, but why not get what you know will fit (and not have any possible issues with being USCG approved)? You can get a tune-up kit for that distributor for dirt cheap at this site; http://www.iboats.com/mall/partfind...gd_poid=111637&gd_row=11&**********=598745165

and here is your cap;http://www.iboats.com/mall/partfind...gd_poid=111715&gd_row=11&**********=598745165

NAPA auto parts has a Mercruiser parts cat. They can usually get them in a day or 2 and they are reasonablly priced.
Good luck!

Yep, Napa. I get a lot of mercruiser parts there. They carry most maintenance type parts in stock at my store.

do you have 12v at the coil whilst ignition is on without running a 12v supply directly?u may have problem in the loom or switch in your throttle control.

I ran a hot wire straight from the battery to the coil and no fire

I did some checking and cross referancing and the points and condensor are the exact same thing used in chevy 230 and 250 6's only high performance, But Iboats are cheaper than going to napa, about half the price

Well it fired today, but I had to put new points in it and hot wire it. Guess I will haqve to do some rewireing to get it to run on it's own, Going to clean the carb and hopfull have it running in a few days to check the engine out.
