thanks solittle i'm looking at a 140 hp evenrude 80s model ican get for 500.00 it's a short shaft what do you think i'm so coffused don't want to give on boat but i'm losing my mind with it thanks for help!!

I'm thinking about puting a gill bracket on do you know if i need a long shaft of short if i can use a short shaft i can pick up that 140 hp. What do you think??

The bracket is a good idea but I doubt that 140 is a short shaft. I'd bet it's a 20" (long). What length is your SD now?

ya the 140 is a 20' i'm not sure but in the pic of the 140 looks shorter than mine. mine is a sea drive looks long. i was told that to put four fingers betwen uper lower unit and steering it is a long shaft by looking at pic noway to get four fingers in there. what is the best way to measure the shaft. Thanks

can i use a20' shaft with gill if so i'm on my way to get the140 3 1/2 drive from me.

The SD model number will tell you if it's a long or x-long.

Personally, if it were mine and I was going to a bracket I'd go with a 25" motor (X-long) to keep the powerhead up out of the water as much as possible and have the extra room for tilting (clearance for the hood on the outboard).

If the SD is a 25", I'd sure go with a 25" outboard.

thanks Dhadley you are right remeber read that a guy had that problum he could not trim up to get lower unit out of water. Thanks i think thats what i'm going to do gill bracket with 25' shaft. i just whant to thank every body that help me get this srahtened out. THANKS AIGAN. i'll post aigan when i get it all done!!!!!!
