I need a new prop for my 82 15hp mariner. I ordered one off of Iboats and it was not the correct one...the spines didnt match up (Correct number, just different sizes). I emailed IBoats and asked which prop to get since I wasnt sure and they said they didnt have a prop that fit my motor. The weird thing is on iboats they have for an 82 mariner 15 hp, a non through hub exhaust with pin drive. Mine is definitely through hub exhaust and 8 spline drive. The size of the prop is 9 1/2 x 10 1/2 and there is no part number on the prop. I may just end up sending it in to get it repaired. Any help appreciated. .

If you are considering getting a new prop, you might want to checkout Piranha Props website. They have a lifetime center hub and the blades are replacable. It seems rather expensive at first, but will make repairs of the prop alot faster and cheaper in the long run.

Re: Need prop for 84 15hp mariner

Im trying to find the cheapest route. The prop I have is bent, I could get it sent in and fixed for around $60, the prop I tried to buy was like $55 or something. I will probably end up just sending it in because its been so much of a hassle trying to find a prop for this motor. I dont see why its so hard.

The problem is you have a motor from the early startup years with a really small following.
No demand so no production.
For instance I checked the 53-56 Evinrude 15 There are 2 sizes available. Almost double the cost of the prop you ordered but available.
I have a 65 Merc 500 that props are not readily available As i recall 66 is available but 65 is a different spline count.
Fortunately I have 3 props.
Have you been watching ebay?
I think you might as well get it repaired.

No im not a huge fan of ebay. I think ill just get it sent in. Im starting to find out that parts are harder than normal to find on these mariner motors. Any chance a yamaha prop would fit it? I have to buy a yamaha gas plug for it.

I have a yamaha made mariner(30hp 86-87)
Through hub exhaust but it has a 10 spline, not sure if the smaller ones are 8 or not.(your sure it's an 8 spline?)
I find it hard to believe, there isn't someone locally that can help you out.

I've been selling and buying occasionally on ebay for years. You need to be aware of their their number of transactions
Feed back rating etc. Ask questions just to see their responses.
I would think long and hard before buying a used prop from anywhere. Though many vendors have pretty liberal return policy.
I have bought and sold bicycles, outboard motors vintage car parts, dolls, sports equipment, vintage boats, pin ball machines,
etc etc. Got a Mad wagon bicycle frame and fork for 99 cents without having to snipe anyone.
Bought a Johnson Tn26 that was damaged in transit Should have known better the seller had excellent but limited
feed back and motor wasn't packed very well. Got a full value settlement from the carrier and parted out the motor.
As far as I know there are any number of Yamaha and Mariner props that are the same number,
but your spline dilemma confuses things.

have you looked at turning point propellers? they're website has a prop selection guide on the home page. they may make a propeller and hub system for your motor.

How would you be able to tell? I can get the number real quick. And it is an 8 spline shaft, the prop I ordered is for and 8 spline but the splines on the prop are more pointed whereas the ones on the shaft are more rounded.

That might be a 1983 motor, not sure if that would matter though.

Re: Need prop for 84 15hp mariner

I know this is an old thread but im going to bump it back up. I orderd a michigan wheel prop because it was the one they said would fit my motor. The model # for the prop is 032050 - (9" x 10-1/2") but it didnt fit. the splines on the prop were off a little in their shape. Im still in search of a prop because the one thats on it now is need of some major help after this fall's duck season. I sent MI wheel another email to see what they say. Getting real frustrated trying to find a prop for this motor.

EDIT: The motor is an 82, not an 84, if that matters much.

If you still can't find a prop for that motor after this long, I would part ways with it. Just imagine when you need to start replacing other parts for it.

Re: Need prop for 84 15hp mariner

No way im parting with the motor, its in great shape, nothing wrong with it, just a bent prop. I can send the prop in for $60 I was just hoping to find a new one so I had a spare. I got a call from a marina by my hometown. He had to call mercury and they told him they have a prop he can order that may or may not fit. Its $120 though  Im probably going to just send it in to get fixed but im gonna do a little more searching before I just give up.

Those were made by Yamaha. High quality motors, so I agree, don't part with it. Nothing merc about them which is why yours is still running.

Have you tried an early Yamaha prop? Solas make's one in a similar pitch...10" or 11" for about $55 here on iboats. 4 blades too.

As I recall we fitted a stainless Solas Saturn $117) to one of those 15M's. Neat little prop.FWIW, Solas Saturn Stainless Prop 3121-093-10....

Solas Saturn Stainless Prop Features:

All-around general purpose propeller
A more durable replacement for an aluminum prop with better efficiency
Rubber hub for easy installation and excellent gripping force

Fits the following Yamaha outboards

9.9 HP 2 stroke / 1984 & newer (8 tooth)
9.9 HP F9.9 4 stroke / 2000-2007 (8 tooth)
15 HP 2 stroke / 1984 & newer (8 tooth)
15 HP F15 4 stroke / 2000 & newer (8 tooth)
20 HP F20 4 stroke / All Years (8 tooth)

Fits the following Mercury and Mariner outboards

9.9 HP Japanese Origin (8 Tooth Yamaha)
15 HP Japanese Origin (8 Tooth Yamaha)

Fits the following Honda outboards

8 HP / 2001 & newer (8 tooth)
9.9 HP / 1988 & newer (8 tooth)
15 HP / 1988 & newer (8 tooth)
20 HP / 2003 & newer (8 tooth)

I believe we have some bones kicking around i you get stuck on parts.
iboats will take back unused props.
