I may give the yamaha prop a try. The weird thing is anything before 1984 is showing non-thru hub exhaust on the iboats website.

So I pulled the old prop off the motor yesterday. The only thing on the prop are the dimensions, it says 9 1/4 x 10 1/2 J. Not sure what the J is for. Also one thing I hadnt noticed before, on the opposite side that the model number plate is, is a plate that says "made in Japan for Mariner etc..." So its a japan made mariner.

Re: Need prop for 84 15hp mariner

After some more searching I found crowleymarine.com They have the man. numbers for the props for my mariner. But when trying to order parts from them they didnt even list a 15hp for 1982. So I started the online chat with them. I gave them my year and hp and the guy told me that mariner didnt make a 15hp that year and I gave him the model number. He gave me a link to a new prop then. Direct man. replacement prop is $120.... This is the prop he said I need QA3914R | BLKDMD 9.25R10 | Mercury | Crowley Marine

???? I have already told you what props will fit that motor and they are far less expensive and better than the Merc prop mentioned above. They are also here on sale at iboats, which supports the free knowledge that you are receiving.

The aforementioned Solas stainless prop ($117) available at iboats, or the

Aluminum Solas 9-1/4"D x 10"P, 3111-093-10, $49.49. There are other pitches available and this topic should have already switched to "which pitch".

Solas Amita 3 Aluminum Propeller Features:

Wide blade design specifically for 4-stroke engines
Outstanding acceleration and top speed
Rubber hub for easy installation and excellent gripping force

Fits the following Yamaha outboards

9.9 HP 2 stroke / 1984 & newer (8 tooth)
9.9 HP F9.9 4 stroke / 2000-2007 (8 tooth)

15 HP F15 4 stroke / 2000 & newer (8 tooth)
20 HP F20 4 stroke / All Years (8 tooth)

Fits the following Mercury and Mariner outboards

9.9 HP Japanese Origin (8 Tooth Yamaha)
15 HP Japanese Origin (8 Tooth Yamaha)

Fits the following Honda outboards

8 HP / 2001 & newer (8 tooth)
9.9 HP / 1988 & newer (8 tooth)
15 HP / 1988 & newer (8 tooth)

Good Luck.

Yeah im waiting to get paid thursday to order the solas prop. I talked to someone from solas though and they said they didnt have a prop for the motor. Ill still try it though. Just waiting for the money to come in. And i figured i'd have a back up plan in case that solas prop doesnt fit. Dont worry I didnt ignore your comment! :thumb:

Well, in the meantime...Pitch selection.

What boat is this going on(weight, etc.)? Have you checked the WOT RPM of your rig. Are there any characteristics you would like to improve?

Others will chime in if you would like to provide some data.

Its a 14ft V bottom aluminum boat. The rpm range is 4500-5500. I wouldnt mind having two props for this boat... One for the summer (hardly any weight and like to go fast) and one for the fall when duck hunting and trapping (Often weighted down and would like to get on plane quicker). The prop thats on it now is really good, not many complaints about it. It goes on plane loaded with 4 guys and keeps the speed nice with 4 guys.

If it does well with 4 aboard make note of the size. Also be aware it might over rev with only one aboard.

The Yamaha prop did fit. I almost feel stupid for not ordering a yamaha prop in the first place, but I feel like it is something the marinas that work on boats should know. Mariner is a pretty well known brand, you would think they would know that some mariners are not mercury made and need yamaha parts.

Re: Need prop for 84 15hp mariner

Can you confirm that the prop is cupped...That is the trailing edge on the face of the blades have a slight upwards lift.

Go easy on your local shops, those were a bit of an odd ball - but built like tanks.

Those were also prop shaft rated horsepower and the genesis for US outboards being forced to go prop shaft rated.

+1 with steelespike's request, so others will benefit as well. Grab your car GPS for speed if needed.

Grab your car GPS for speed if needed.

I got a handheld that I always take with me when duck hunting :) I know with the old prop (9 1/4 x 10 1/2) I could hit around 21mph with just me and some fishing gear. With the old prop bent, with me and one other person plus fishing gear we were getting 19mph. Ill let you know what the new one does. Ill check for cupping tonight.

Re: Need prop for 84 15hp mariner

Finally got out last weekend with the new prop. With me and the girlfriend in the boat with light tackle gear, WOT I was getting 22.5/22.6 MPH. Got on plane quicker but I could tell I was pulling more RPM's.

Re: Need prop for 84 15hp mariner

Doing some long guesses 22.5 mph,guess 2.00 gear ratio,guess 14% slip,10" pitch= About 5500 rpm.
