Re: need quick reply please!!!!!

thanks mike i totally overlooked it.....one more question, the boat is on the trailor in my driveway and the manual says to put drive in full in position to remove the lower unit....im pretty sure that i will not have enough room to clear the water tube assembly...can i pull it at a 45 degree angle or do i need to just remove the entire drive assembly first.....i dont have any special tools or access to a lifting hoist.....i can get an alignment tool made at work fairly easy....i really do not want to pull the drive if i can help it....any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

alright....i have all the bolts out of the lower and it is on there good.....i took a rubber mallet and popped it a few times and the thing wont budge....i dont want to keep beating on it cuz its jarring the entire drive....i think that prying on the seam with a screwdriver would be a bad idea....so whats a good idea

Did you remember the nut at the front? Did you remove the trim tab?

Be sure to disconnect the speedo tube near the front nut!

when you say the front nut i assume you are talking about the bolt that the anode/trim tab is held up by right? is there another bolt on the transom side cuz i didnt see it in the manual.....yes i did forget to unclip the speedo.....thanks for reminding me.....any suggestions about getting it to drop off?

There is one bolt near the speedo tube connector...right behind the front anode.

Actually, it is a nut...the stud is part of the lower unit.

i edited my post after you replied......i removed the bolt that holds up the trim tab (anode in my case)......is there another bolt on the inside near the transom....and also do i need to unhook the speedo if i am just taking the lower off?

Yes...the tube has to be disconnected...and the nut I am referring to is just in front of the speedo tube connector.

Re: need quick reply please!!!!!

now i see what you are talking about....it was in a different section of the manual for removing the entire drive....so if i remove that nut then the lower should drop off

I think those drives need to be in fwd gear before you take them off.

It's tougher than you think...just watch out for the cavitation plates, don't break one off.

Like Capt21 said, make sure that you are in 'forward' before you break her loose.

Re: need quick reply please!!!!!

i thought maybe that the previous owner might have painted it and that was holding it together but there is water coming out of the seam.....i have it in forward gear but once i take the lower off the prop will spin freely right.....do i need to keep the prop from moving?

No...although most of us have already pulled the prop for safety reasons.

You will be turning the driveshaft to seat the new impeller, and the prop can get in the way.

Just make sure that you don't move the shift rod for any reason....
