Look under where the trim tab was , you`ll see the bolt that also needs to be removed
NOW , BEFORE YOU REMOVE THAT BOLT GO read THE MANUAL AGAIN, If you missed that part you may have missed another very important item. READ the manual to be positive you know what to do. A mistake here will only cost you a lot more of your money.

i removed the phantom bolt that i missed under the trim tab and it dropped out....now the problem is that i dont have enough room to get it completely out without trimming up, will that be a problem? i am having a little trouble finding what i need to know in the manual (this is my first time working on a boat period) can the shift rod be moved when removing the lower if you dont pull it perfectly straight out? sorry for all the idiotic questions, i just dont want to tear anything up

I'm sorry that I didn't mention your "phantom bolt"...but I made the assumption that you saw that when you removed the trim tab. My bad!

Like BT Doctur said, trim up as much as you need. I always have mine pretty close to full up for ease. The shift rod will disengage in a fairly short distance, and I can't see you moving it out of position.

Happy boating!

Re: need quick reply please!!!!!

the drive is off and sitting in my garage....i am a little frustrated as to why....i will break it down for you

was told more than once on this forum that the impeller will fry after 15 sec with out water....my impeller was without water for about 90 sec and turns out that it is in great condition after all the work of taking the drive off.....i am not bashing this forum because i have gotten so much good info from so many willing boaters

2nd when i got my impeller from the local boat shop i first asked for the kit with the o-rings and gaskets included and was told that when they change impellers that never use that, just the impeller was all i needed....wrong, i dont know how you could remove the impeller assembly to check everything out and save the gaskets, evidently they dont remove the whole assembly when they change the impeller and they wanted 350 dollars to do it.

anyways, while i have the lower off is there anything else that i need to check out since it wont be going back on till tuesday?

You are not the first?and for sure not the last?boater to discover that their impeller still had some life in it. But given the information that you posted here, the only conservative answer would have been to err on the ?safe? side.

Had you done otherwise, what would have been your situation? It would have been using your boat with your eye ?glued? to the temperature gauge, in constant fear of disaster. And if that disaster came, you would have been looking for a tow?at best!

Now you have learned just how to service your drive by yourself?and have a new impeller for your peace of mind?and can use your boat for the reason that you own it, to have unbridled ?fun?.

Like I said?you aren?t the first, and the advice you went with was the only responsible answer.

Happy boating!
