I have a 17' Lund with a 90 ELPT.
I wanted a kicker for slow trolling and as a back-up motor. So, I bought a used Merc 9.9ML. It's bolted on and attached to the main fuel tank.
I couldn't control (conveniently reach) the handle when seated in the seat on the casting deck on when the seat was in the base nearest the motor. I could do it, but it was awkward and uncomfortable. So, there I am sitting on the carpeting of the casting deck for lack of a better place to sit, straining my eyes to see the sonar. And, when turning hard to the right, my knuckles were banging against the left gunwale.
So, I go to the dealer and get this rod installed so that I can steer the kicker from the steering wheel, or, pop the thing off and use it like a tiller as before. Big improvement - right? Well, yes, but now I'm getting in and out of my seat to change speed or shift in/out of neutral or kill the motor.
I tried to research products but didn't come across any "that's it!" discoveries. I can/might go back to my dealer, but was thinking I could handle this myself since I just went over-budget.
