I have a 1987 bassboat it's 16ft it's my first fiberglass boat. I got for a good deal. I noticed on the bottom of the boat at the v that it had the white finish rubbed off n was Sortta flat, it has a few Knicks n chips out of it n I was concerned about it taking on water. I took the boat out to fish n chk it out n fished for 6 hours n in the bottom by the plug there was about a bottle of water that I pumped out. Idk for sure if it's leaking but Id like to protect that v somehow n keep it from getting damaged. Should I worry or am I over thinking it. Give me some advice thanks

The spot is on the keel, it looks like from beaching the boat over time has flattened it out, how can I fix this.

Hello duckhunter .. welcome to Iboats :) ..

I would think that just beach rash would not take on water.

If its just beach rash you can put a keel guard on it .. or apply some gelcoat to it.

It might be less expensive actually to just keel guard it.

Got some pics :) ..

Re: Need some advice on fiberglass.

Thank you, it's not very much water like a bottle u can buy from a store. But it has rubbed the keel flat it's about a inch wide and about 15 inches long and I'm
New to this so I was worried n I have looked into a keel guard I want to invest in one but didn know if I had to do any other work.

I looked at other keel repairs on this site n most of the ones I've seem have rubs n spots way worse than what I have and all the advice they give is basically easy fix n gelcoat repair.

Thank you again and I'll try to get a pic posted and anymore advice for a beginner is greatly welcomed.

yes......we need pictures....

we can only guess at the amount of rubbing......but all it takes is one small spot and you have a hole.

a keel gaurd is allways a good idea if you are beaching the boat......but isnt a fish killer ment to float?...not sit on a beach?

Yes but I got the boat to use tubing n to go swimming off of with my fianc?. The damage to it was before I bought the boat, all tho the primary use will be floating n fishing there is some chance of beaching, and I jus don't want to damage the boat anymore. Thank you tho I'll post pics later
