Yes there is a flexible spring type linkage between the upper and lower carb. Try eBay or Amazon for a shop manual. Or find a Clymer manual. Don't bother with a Seloc manual - they aren't even good knee pads.

The plastic link betweem the two carbs should have a blade in the hole for the bottom carb. When the carbs are taken apart the VERY small metal pice in that bottom carb link will fall out and that is probbly what has happened to cause the carb not to open. No problem to fix, as a tab of feeler gauge can be cut to replace it and solve the problem of the carb not opening. you will have to take the top carb off in order to see where the balde is missing. I have had to replace several of those tabs when others have done work on the carbs and did not know about the tab. with out it the rod and top carb will turn and the motor will run , but not correct when in a tank or on the water. A link and sync should be done every time a carb is worked on. If not done, one takes the risk of running the motor on to lean a mixture of fuel and could burn a piston.

You should find the carbs have linkage that opens both carbs the same, without the correct linkage the motor cannot perform.

So I found the link and also little metal piece that goes between the carbs on ********** for 24.00 shipped...kinda expensive for a piece of plastic but w.e. il give an update once I get the parts and put them in. Thanks again for all the help guys. Il try take some pics aswell and post them and give Out the part numbers just in case someone else runs into the same problem as me

so even though i ordered the parts, i did take the carbs completly off and cut up alittle piece of a feeler guage and fit it in the slot, and BAM both carbs open together, im so stoked, even though the parts are still on there way ill just keep them as spare. Cant wait to take it out this weekend and really feel the power of this boat

Update..I have good news and bad news...

Good news! the boat now has full power and i got a gps speed of 31mph.

Bad news...while i was out having fun with my new powered boat, on the way back i was at about 3/4 throttle cruising around 22mph and all of a sudden it went dead again like it was when i was on 1 carb, at the time i thought that the bottom carb closed and the little metal piece may have broke. when i got it home i did some more inspection, both carbs were opening so i was like UH-O what did i do now.. so i pulled the plugs and noticed on the number 1 plug there was some little pieces of metal and I instantly wanted to cry..I was like this cant be, no way a cylinder burnt out, i pulled all the other plugs and they were good. I did a compression test on the cylinders and all of them even the one i found metal pieces on were good, they were all above 110. So then i was like well thats weird, i poked a flash light into the cylinder and saw that the top on #1 cylinder had some of the top missing. Im basicly about to give up on this thing and get rid of it before i sink to much money into it that ill never get back if i was to sell it. But anyways, i cleaned off the plug and ran it again and it was like the problem never existed, got the boat back up to full speed, i may just run richer then normal and not full throttle it for the rest of the season. If i can find a cheap outboard replacement i may consider it, but if not, this boat may be up for sale before the season ends.

The carbs are running to lean and need to be adjusted. I start by backing them 1 1/2 turns out from lighty seated and screw the bottom carb in till the motor studders then back it out 1/4 turn then do the top carb the same way. Running lean will burn a piston fairly fast if not corrected. Only turn the idle jet in 1/8 turn at a time and give the motor time to settle in on the new setting as you go.

So r u saying if I tighten the screw it will lean it out and if I loosen it, it will run richer? Also is it the 13mm lookin nut pon the bottom of each carb were the float. Is?

Whoa

Idle mixture adjustment has NO EFFECT when running much over an idle, that when you are running on the main jet.

Either you have a dirty carb, not passing enough fuel to that cyl, running lean and beginning to melt the piston.

You have been lucky so far, the engine stopped because the piston got too hot and tried to 'stick' in the bore.

OR,

you have a restricted fuel supply, the fuel pump is not able to keep all carbs full, so the top one runs a bit low, lean, melting the piston.

The very FIRST thing to do, grab a piece of clear hose and put it in line to the carbs. Start the motor and idle it and WATCH that clear hose very carefully, if any air bubbles are being pumped thru, that PROVES the fuel system is sucking in air somewhere between the tank and the fuel pump.

Find that leak and fix it!

Quick disconnect fuel hose fitting age, the o-ring can allow air to suck in yet will not leak liquid out.

Fuel pumps get weak, valves don't seal well. Fuel pump rebuild kits are cheaper than a piston. A lot cheaper.
