First of all, i have learned sooo much from all of you guys and i want to thenk you!! Ok, my question is this: I just changed my lower unit oil and i am wondering how tight do i bind the screws down. Is it ok if i just seat them tight or do i need to really put some tourque in it and seat them REALLY tight?? The reason i am asking is bc i am scared that i didnt tighten them enough (a fetish a mine, i tend to overtighten things) an i want to know the proper tourque i need to apply in order for my seals to work properly?? THANKS AGIAN GUYS!!

Make sure the seats are clean. Use new plastic (nylon?) washers available at any parts store. Tighten by hand with a scewdriver that fits well and tighten 'em good and tight. Lean into it a bit. You should be able to get them out next time by leaning into it the other way, no air tools or impact drivers needed. New washers is the secret. They compress.

I go snug, then another 1/4 - 1/2 turn.

The manual for my 115 SPL says 85 in. pounds. I am a chronic over tightener as well and finally broke down and bought a torque wrench (after stripping out my fuel tank sender screws, one gearcase drain screw and a carb mount screw.) The $100 would have paid for itself by now if I would have bought it sooner!!
