Pauly, as far as the splashwell goes...unless you are in a following sea taking rollers over the stern it shouldn't be a problem to shorten it.

Are you going to put the cross beam back in farther back? My only concern would be that structure that helps keep the hull shape strong.

I plan on using angle aluminum riveted to the splash well and then attached to transom as it was.. Dont think I can bend it without messin it up. All other supports will be intact.

I am trying to determine the height difference and if in fact it will impact the motor mount bolts. There is 3.5" from weep hole to bolt hole now. I think there is 1"- 1.5 difference from the old height of splashwell to the new one. I should be ok..I will have to drill new weep holes tho.

NB..No Biggy..Interesting how little things get overlooked when planning the resto..3/4 ply..with2 coats epoxy..ohh yeah its solid but the distance from factory 3/8 or 1/2" ply for riveting..that was not considered. I am alittle pissed I have to screw in my outside edges..

Yeah Pauly, I didn't have any trouble getting my rivits to bite at the stringers. But, I only went 1/2 on the plywood. I didn't want to have to adjust side board heights and all that mess.

Now the Mariner has 3/4" stock so that's what I'll be using there.

Have you glassed the top of the deck yet?

question on the rivets

what size plywood did you use?
what size rivets?

i know when i re-installed my ribs i needed 2 different sized rivets
1 to go through the hull and rib
and another to go through the hull, rib and there's another rib under the hull (outside) that runs bow to stern(don't know what they call them)

the rib it probably 2x thicker than the stringers

pauly

looks good!!!!

NB
I would recomend A countersink drill bit that would have been the ticket for me..I'm over it:D

I haven't glassed the top in yet I am waiting for my epoxy delivery. When I get set up for it I will have a few questions for ya.

jspano
I used a 3/16 rivet aluminum with a .750-1.00 grip..It comes up a wee bit shy on the edges...but i tell ya my epoxy is on thick..both sides look like a bar
table.

One more thing..I am NOT cutting the splashwell. I actually went out and bought cutting discs, set it all up had my goggles on...made a 1" cut..and stopped! Took the splashwell and mocked it inside the boat...I dont want to compromise anything with the boat..so it will stay as is..

I also installed a 750GPH and a 360 GPH bilge pumps. Drilled a 1" hole port side. Now I have a discharge port and starboard. the 360 will be manual for emergency or if the other fails.

I think you made a wise decision. IMHO it provides structural integrity to the stern.

yes..thats what makes this an attractive buy..wondering about reliability. I like the idea of having the unit protected inside my console

It is a mess! I read a suggestion to do 3/4 and I went with it. Now I've had to grind the sideboards 1/2" shorter and rerivet them. What a pain. I would have gone back with the factory 1/2 if I had known.

Then if I were you, I'd get something that actually controls the ipod instead of just having an aux jack. I have an Alpine unit in my truck that does that and it is SWEET. Not sure if there are any Alpine marine units. It displays the song titles and everything.

Re: Need Some Help On My 1960 or 1970 Something SS Resto!!!

I am still chuggin along here. I purchased a few goodies for the boat and also made a couple of panels for each side of the boat. I used 3/8 ply, epoxied edges only. I used FRP panel and adhered with PL. I painted with 2 coats rustoleum. I will rivet them in and use aluminum channel to finish off the deck area and smaller channel for the top to clean things up. I'll have more pics of them installed soon. I also ran my wires(marine grade), epoxied all my rivets and seams w/ cloth.. Also fabbed in my 2 Bilge pumps..
I am also trying to frame something for my bow platform..

Looking good, whats FRP stand for? I like the wash down pump idea, I'm always knocking the crawler box bedding over, or spilling something {usually via the nostrils while laughing} :D

NB
I do remember you mentioning that. i was going to use the frp on top gunwales. (no more). I figured they would work well on the sides, easy to wash down and out of the sun somewhat. having 2 coats of paint over the panels should protect them? Same as if you paint over gluvit or other epoxy(deck paint) to protect right? Anyway , if they shrivel up not a big deal to change em out. I really like how they look.
