Re: 1965 Starcraft Jupiter help

jas is right. Check out some of the resto threads and you'll see all kinds of clever tricks for flipping hulls. Most of them tend to involve some combination of A-frames, ratchet straps, trees, or free beer and the neighbors :) You'd be surprised how many people will help a boat guy out. Folks are always waving and giving me the thumbs up when I'm out in the yard tinkering away. GREAT paint job btw jas! I'm inspired! I think I'm gonna leave most of the old paint on my hull when the time comes and just remove the loose, flaky stuff, but should I use the self etching primer over everything (bare metal and old paint), or just the bare metal portions of the hull that have been exposed after prepping? Is there any need, or way to apply a hardener/clear coat over the rattle can paint? I've read mixed reviews about clear coats on hulls here in the forums. Thanks.

Re: 1965 Starcraft Jupiter help

OK, I'm back after work shifted my life from one shift to another to another and now onto a dayshift finally. I decided not to flip the boat over, but it sits on a jet ski stand that rolls around. It's about perfect. I only had to sit on the floor for a few feet of sanding/stripping. I started using aircraft stripper, but I had to wear a resporator and it was SLOW. So I switched to the citrus strip stuff. Much faster and much more pleasant. I found a hole in the front that was oval and had about a whole tube of silicone along with a random machine screw stuck in there. Can I just use JB Marine to fill it? I'm afraid a bolt won't get it sealed properly. I have a few other screw holes in the transom area I plan on just filling with JB Marine. I am ready to wash the whole boat off inside and out, but I wanted know if it's better to prep with TSP and THEN the water and vinagear or just wash it with vinagear? I plan to use the pressure washer and a bucket of water with vinagear to prep it. I don't know if a TSP wash would be necessary or not. I found Rustoleum Aluminum primer in a can and plan to roll and roll rusty on it. I'd like to two-tone the paint but I'm not sure of what color. I have gloss white for the whole boat and grey interior. Would grey look bad a second color or could I get away with a blue or something like that? I'm open to opinions, that's why I'm asking. Thanks again for all the help!
