i have a 2.3 ford in my boat. its been having a overheatin issue for quite some time. it overheats at idle and at slow speeds. if i take it out of gear and get the rpm up to about 2k or so u can watch the gauge drop pretty fast. i have a brand new impeller housing and gasketts. brand new t stat and back flushed the system and all that stuff. i ran it on the muffs for about 20 min the other day and the temp stayed at 160 but as soon as i got it on the lake she started to overheat. i grabed the raw water pump hose and it felt hot i pulled it off and water was pouring out like it should but there was hot water shooting out of the t stat housing. it seems to me like the cooling system is pressurizing. does this sound like a bad head gaskett to anyone? i dont have any water in my oil. it just doesent make any sense why it would overheat at idle but not at 1/4 throttle or better.

Re: need some input

You've been having this problem for quite some time....

Is this a new thread on the same problem? (that can be confusing to all of us)

Did you remove the manifold and riser and check for blockage? You might get yourself a clear piece of vinyl hose and put it in place of the main raw water supply hose coming from the transom to see if there's air bubbles in it at low rpm.

That raw water pump is large enough to supply engines that are MUCH larger and generate far more heat that that little 4 banger.

Did you inspect your circulating pump?

Also, did you try running it with the t-stat removed?

I also have been thinking about your description of the raw water hose getting hot?

If that's the case the plumbing is not hooked up right. There's NO WAY the raw water supply hose (from the drive) could get hot water from the engine unless something is connected wrong (this is a RAW WATER cooled engine right?)

Re: need some input

This is the fourth or fifth thread you have opened up on the same issue. You should stick to one thread.

forth or fifth thread because pepole dont read the original thread right . i explain what i have done and pepole ask me if i have checked things i have already explained in detail that i have done. so i have tryed to narrow it down to certin parts and see if i can get some possitive feed back with pepole having or have had simalar problems.
