Just based on the photo, it looks like you have an engine with a B23 block and then most likely Solex carburetors.
In my opinion, they are easy to "renovate" but I'd strong advise you to 1) take photos as you take them apart, 2) have a new seals/gasket kit, and then of course, 3) also a factory manual

Now been a few years, but if I recall, there are a few versions of the Solex (they do look very similar). Trying to attach an listing I used when I rebuilt mine back in 2007 or so. Hope it helps.

Yes i downloaded the link and also have the shop manual the manual covers volvo penta from like 1966 to 1993, and doesn't say a lot about the specifics of my motor 1990 230a. The 230A seems to be rare???? the carb i have is the solex side draft carb i do believe. The boat didn't sit at all but their was at least a half tank in the boat when i bought it in December 2010 and knowing the guy that i bought it from he prolly ran 87.So im trying to get the fuel burned up but its taking awhile, should i just drain it somehow???? Also how do i know how big my fuel tank is???? Its a 1990 glastron 19.5'... I put plugs, wires, rotor on. cap looked good so did the points.I think my next step would be ordering a carb rebuild kit. Where can i find this kit???? Also this has no fuel filter or water separator so im told. Is a fuel filter/ water separator necessary????

Correct, they were never installed as OEM,

Not having one may be the reason for your problems. With today's E-fuels, every marine engine should have one.

But what it looks like on the outside has nothing to do with what is going on inside.

Ok I will look for an inline filter any suggestions???? Yes I understand I was just wondering if someone could confirm that my carb is a solex side draft???? And where I can get a rebuild kit????

For that matter, remove the flame arrestor and look at your carb. It has a name on it.

Ok I will check that out When I get home. Yes I realize Iboats sells marine parts but I doesn't show the carb rebuild kit for the 230a.
