Re: Need some quick info on a Merc 850

I appreciate the quick response. This is what I did. My 8 AWG red and blk are to the starter solenoid and chassis ground respectively. White is to the bottom of the switch box for power. The smaller guage red wire is above it on the switchbox. Gray is to the choke. Yellow is to the starter solenoid. I haven't hooked up brown or another small gauge black wire yet. I'll tie back the orange one. The PO split a wire going to the switchbox and rectifier, but this was a 6 pin plug. I feel like I'm getting so close.

Small black wire grounds the starter solenoid. Brown connects to one of the yellow stator AC wires for tach signal

The previous brown wire was split between the control box and rectifier like in the diagram. This was clearly an afterthought and looked to involve lots of electrical tape. Should I connect the brown wire to the switch box and then run a wire from the same pole to the rectifier like seen in the diagram? It looks like I'm in for a starter solenoid now as well... one of the smaller studs is just wobbling around because the wire was holding the stud and wire together with just one nut instead of two.

Brown wire needs to be connected to the yellow stator wire only, for universal tachometers. The switchbox signal only works on the old Merc Tachometers. The brown should definately not be connected to the switchbox and the rectifier.
