I need some ideas from someone please. I own a 2003 Sailfish 2360 with the same year Yammy 225 4 stroke. Last June the engine blew a piston (at only 300 hrs and regular maintenance performed). It was still under extended warranty and the local dealer got Yamaha to replace the engine and mid-section. Since the new engine was installed the dealer has had my boat four times. It acts like it's starving for fuel. It will run at idle but try and give it any gas at all and it bogs down and usually shuts off. After the engine was installed the dealer was having the same problem so they replaced both fuel pumps and new fuel line from tank to motor and all new fuel filters. Got the boat back and still had the same issue leaving the landing. Took it back to the dealer and they said that the low pressure fuel pump was defective (supposed to be brand new) and they replaced it and everything was ok. That was in September and the weather has not been good here so I didn't have a chance to go out. Well I finally went to go offshore fishing Feb 8th and left the landing and had the exact same problem as before. Obviously the dealer didn't river test the damn thing, and they don't know what they are doing. I am not taking it there again. The problem is that now my extended warranty has run out but I don't feel I should have to pay for the repair since it has never run since the new engine was installed. Again averything in the motor is new from Yamaha. Any ideas? Please help. Thanks, Rob

I would go back and talk with them, they did the work and should fix any problem related that.

Re: Need some serious help

first I would want to know why a piston blew.
most likly the same reason another is going to.
piston failure is a result of a problem not a problem.
second call yamahas customer line and explain the issues, have copies of the workorders, complaints and the resolution of the complaints.
then either ask for a dealership location that has a master tech or one they would reccomend to assist in resolving your problem.
300 hours in 5 years is rather low usage.
fuel gets nasty unless its turned over regularly even with stabilizer.
has the VST filter been serviced?
has the fuel rail pressure been verified?
were the injectors sent out for servicing when the power head was replaced?
what your describing could be fuel related, could also be a bad TPS.
takes about 2 hours to service the VST filter but it must be done on an annual basis anyway.

Re: Need some serious help

Thanks for your suggestions. A different dealer has the boat now and yamaha says they will do a good will repair if necessary. That's why you should buy a Yammy. Best warranty service of them all. I'll let you know what they find.

Vapor Seperator Tank filter.

what should be checked i agree is fuel pressure.
most overlooked is the fuel pressure regulator.
they never go bad. so its not hard to overlook that.

make is fail with the gauge on the engine and see what the high fuel pressure is.

also at the same time hook up a vacuum gauge before the 10 micron water fuel seperator.

this will tell you if you have a fuel flow problem.

may be something is floating around in your tank who the hack knows.
