not sure proper is the right word. If you increased your engine RPM 25% a 25% increase in prop might get you by. You might need to change the gears to be happy.

Ayuh,... It Won't Work.... They Don't make props with pitches that tall...

You replaced a 1.5 ratio gearbox with a 2.0 gearbox, which is numerically 33% higher. Boat probably originally had a prop in the neighborhood of 21" pitch . To make up for the 33% numerically higher outdrive, you'll need 33% more prop pitch to get your engine RPM back in the ballpark. Means you'll need somewhere around a 28" pitch prop. Biggest Alpha prop I'm aware of happens to be 28" pitch made for the couple of years they had the 454 in front of an Alpha. They're relatively rare, probably hard to find used and will cost you $500-$600 new. Then it probably won't work worth a darn on your boat due to the different slip ratios and prop efficiencies of the steeper pitch.

You could gamble your money on the high pitch prop, but your best bet would be to sell your drive and buy one with the correct gear ratio to get your prop pitch where it should be.

I agree; you might be able to invest enough time, diddling, and money to get your rpm but then the boat won't perform right.

thanks for the info guys i have a 25 ss prop on there now its a bigger 25 and it gets on plane fairly quick my buddy was runnin side by side w me and his boat is pretty much same size w the same 5.7 mag and he was runnin about 3200 rpm where i was runnin right around 4 at same speed boat picks up speed pretty good but runnin high rpms and holeshot to plane seems kinda slugish how hard is it to put the proper gear in upper and is it even possible to put 1.5 gears in a 1.98 case?

thanks for all help
