Re: Need timing mark

best I remember there wasnt a pick up timing on that model. you had idle timing ,wot throttle timing and the carb roller adjustment.

Re: Need timing mark

Darned if I remember the procedure. Are you looking for the adjustment of the delrin yoke on the throttle rod to the cam? That should be in the manual (I don't have). Speaking in generalities, it may be a measurement, or it may be to cause the mark on the cam to be aligned with the roller at a certain spark advance (Often TDC) If the flywheel doesn't have TDC or another pick-up mark, it probably is a measurement in inches. Sorry, that is the extent of my memory.

Re: Need timing mark

What motor are we working on here? 1973 50 hp ???? Obviously some of you guys know... the rest of us can't help if we don't know.

Can't think of a 50 HP in any make that isn't a 2 cyl engine. That said; there has to be a total timing set up (aka link and sync) for this engine.

Fast idle timing? I only know of primary pick up and WOT timing adjustments. Like I say... what make are we working on and then maybe more info can be passed. :)

Re: Need timing mark

I no longer have any OMC manuals that go back that far, I may have a clymers or a seloc someplace but I never trusted them way back when.
however best I recal if the throttle cam had a single mark,no pickup timing, if it had a double mark it had a idle, pickup and wot timing.
however my memory is getting worse than my typing.

I"m not sure what you mean by fast idle timing, but the J-E 2 banger 50 had TDC for the cam pickup timing. Idle timing doesn't matter as that varies by the idle speed screw.

Re: Need timing mark

emdsapmgr, sent me a message that OMC came out with fattening the idle screw adjustment, ended up with about 2 3/4 turns out. that too care of the problems.

also setting, idle speed stop and linc n sinc at TDC. yhid set, everyting as it should be. ran like brand new.
