Need to be running tonight.

So I replaced my old Point Ignition with an electronic egnition over the weekend. I got everything running for about 5 minutes. Then she just shut down. My ballast resistors are still getting way to hot but the biggest issue is that I'm not getting any spark out of my coil. I know I'm getting power to the coil but no spark out of the coil. I replaced all the wiring to the coil and still no spark. I also borrowed a coil from a friends boat and couldn't get a spark from that one. What could cause that. I really need to get it running tonight so I can get the boat on the hard while I'm out of town for a month.

Ballast resistors get hot and they will burn you, so that's not your problem.

To test, remove everything from the coils small terminals. Hook only the wire/s from what ever conversion to the coil.
Hook up a jumper wire from the battery positive terminal to the + terminal of the coil and check for spark. Spark or no?
After checking, remove the jumper wire.

If you do have spark, hook the wire from the ballast resistor to the + terminal of the coil, turn the key on and check for spark again. Results?
