Need To Change Dipstick Tube...

Hi,

I need to install a different dipstick tube on my 5.7 GM engine. It was a truck engine that was converted for marine use.

To get the tube to line up into the port in the block, I need to remove my new exhaust manifold on that side of the engine.

Will I need to order a new gasket for the manifold or will the existing one be ok?

NOTE - they are BRAND NEW manifolds, never used.

Thanks.

looking at the parts diagram for a 1995 5.0 from mercruiser you need a "15296A2" #18 in the diagram... the 1995 vintage mercruisers used the dipstick tube that went into the block

Thanks everyone. I actually have the tube - I pulled it from my old 5.0 Mercruiser. It's design hugs the block a lot more than the prior, dipstick (from a truck engine, converted for marine use).

.... and so when I was looking to install it this weekend, I noticed that it was impossible to angle it in with the manifolds in the way...

Bolt Size For Dipstick Tube Holder-Tabs?

Hi everyone,

Can anyone advise what size bolts I need for the tabs that hold the dipstick tube in place?

They bolt into the block, but almost all of mine are rusted.

Thanks.

if it goes into the block, the tube is pounded in. I have a vice-grip that I modified years ago for driving in dip-stick tubes. as far as the flag goes, the ones that use the exhaust bolts are 3/8

Ayuh,.... Bolts into the block, I believe, are 1/4"- 20, x 3/4" long,.... might be 1/2" long,.....
