Need to find a good used outboard

fairly new to boating and this forum. I've been searching for a good used outboard here in oakland county michigan. Not having much luck with craigslist or local marina's (which have no used outboards in my experience). Just looking for some suggestions from some experienced boaters in the area. I appretiate any good advice. thanks! btw looking for a 20 or 25 hp longshaft tiller.

I have found the market to be very lean the last couple years.

I have also found that possibly the most economical way to get the motor I want, is to buy a boat, pull the motor, and then resell the boat.

Scroll to the top of this page. Look to the right where you see the picture that says OUTBOARD MOTORS. Click it and select the HP you are after.

Yes, I tried that. No long shafts in current inventory for 20 or 25 hp. thank you .

Roscoe, I may end going that route. I'm not sure how the dragon would feel about that however.

Ditto on the used outboards on iboats, just keep checking back for a long shaft, inventory changes.

I bought a 9.9 Mercury in 2006 that was about a year or two old. The price was excellent, it had been gone over and spiffed up, and was shipped on schedule. I've been very satisfied with it and never any trouble. I did have a question about it after it was delivered, contacted customer service, and got a satisfactory answer quickly.

JBK - We know 20 -25 hp long shaft. What's the budget? 2 stroke or 4? Budget? Merc or JohnyRude

1971 18 hp Evinrude That's an 18.

There are 10 or more 18 hp that I saw also. I have a 1957 18 that runs awesome. Not a true long shaft but it would work I think.

thanks to those who attempted to help me! I ended up coming across a 25hp Yamaha. Wish me luck.
