Need to find name of part

I have an older 60 HP Johnson and it was latched in the up position while trailored and at some point it bounced and broke a bracket thingie on the side. It's there so when you manually lift the engine using the lifting tool, this latch thingie locks the engine up? I hope I've explained what I'm talking about well enough, trying to find a replacement but apparently I'm the only one that's ever broken this thing 'cause I can't find it anywhere! Any help at all?

Definately not the only one. Some of the older ones are not intended for trailering and people broke them all the time. What model do you have? I have a couple of unidentified tilt lock thingies in the shop if you can give me a clue.

Here's a shot of the motor incase you can identify it, otherwise I'll have to make a run back over to the boat lot to get the actual number. Meant to copy it down but in scampering away from the rain drops, forgot to. Thanks a bunch for the help

Oh, and it says hydro-electric on the back panel incase that provides any extra identification. I'll go try and find a similar model to visually compare, let me know if you need the model number though. Oh, and the little doohickie is in action there, you can see it. It just doesn't look the same anymore.

they made a u shaped loop that fit into the trim pin holes, that lifted up into the tilt lock, that was for trailering.

That looks to me like a '70 or '71 60 horse 3 cylinder. Hydro electric clues it.

I have that exact same engine.

Are you talking about the tilt lock? The clip on the port side of the engine that has an L shape to it? Or the pin that goes through it?

Re: Need to find name of part

I had to run out so I stopped by the boat and you guys are spot on, it's a 71.

I assumed I'd done something wrong when I saw how mangled it got on it's first trip, any idea what the U shaped thing would be called in this case? I thought about finding a bracing bar like is used in current motors but without the hydraulics to hold it in place, it wouldn't seem to do much either. If there's a contraption created and intended for that purpose, that would be awesome.

I'm working on emailing those websites my inquiry right now, thanks a lot.

You guys rock.

Its called a transom saver. Very important when trailering.

Re: Need to find name of part

Oh ok, so it is generally like the current ones. Is there a specific one I should be looking for or are they generic? How do you ensure it doesn't move if, unlike on the power ones I've used, there's not always pressure to hold it in place? Thanks again guys, I appreciate it.

EDIT: Nevermind, I looked at the picture again and I believe I see an elastic band that goes around the lower unit. That seems to be the answer. Gotta go find me one of those, thanks!
