Iam just about done redoing the inside of my skiff . I moved the console forward and plan to move the battery under the console . From what i can tell my motor , 2001 Mercury 25 hp , has 8 awg on it now . I need about 3 foot more, for approx total length of 12 ft . A chart i found shows to switch to # 6 wire , However i do plan to switch the 25 out with a 40 hp in less then a year . The same chart shows for 30 to 115 hp mercs , use # 4 wire at that point .
My questions are :
1) Since i have to buy the wire now , if i use # 4 wire , will it create any issues until i switch to a 40hp ?
2) I know to get the tinned wire , so what type of ends ( material ) should i look for ?
