I think this boat is a Mark Twain 240XL, with 260hp mercruiser engine. If not any ideas what type? Is it a freshwater or saltwater boat? Don't really know the difference, thanks for any help.

Nice looking boat. Looks like it could handle big water.

That's a decent size boat and it should handle salt water but first make sure it is reliable. I would not advised venturing too far until you are certain.

Freshwater vs. Saltwater just means "where has it been mainly used". However, an important part would be whether yours has closed-cooling or raw-water cooling. The salt water can be harder on engine parts if you have an open cooling system. Since MT's were mainly built in Missouri, I bet that yours is open cooling. It is definitely a big enough/solid enough boat for the ocean though, so I wouldn't worry about that. If the engine is reliable, go for it, just make sure you have the proper open-water equipment like radios, flares, etc in case an emergency occurs.

I'm not sure what info you're looking for. From one photo of the front/side what are we supposed to figure out? Do you have a HIN? Is there a model # on the vessel. My Mark Twain boat says 190BR right on the side so i know what it is.

The HIN will tell you what year. The engine will tell you what engine. As was said already, "salt water" boat means nothing really.

Just FYI, Mark Twain boats of 1980's were solid, heavier boats.

Not as heavy as the "60's"
