Need to know the scoop on OptiMax motors

I am looking at a boat with either a '99 or 2000 OptiMax 200 offshore motor (not yet confirmed which year). I have seen a lot of post about OptiMax's having a reputation for problems in the early years. I have also seen a lot of post saying they straightened out the problems and now they're great motors. Here's what I need to know, if possible:

1. What were the trouble years and when did they get the issues worked out?

2. What exactly were these inherent problems?

3. Would these issues have been worked out early when the motor was under warranty and now should be of no concern?

4. Your overall opinion on these problems as relating to the possible purchase of a fairly low hours '99 or 2000 Opti today.

The seller is someone I work with that is very trustworthy.

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Had a 2000 115 opti and after haling it over 1000 miles and 18 mo.having it worked on. I have had a 150efi for over 2 years (thanks to Mercury) and have not had any problems with it other than fuel vaporizing.

I think they were opti-pop motors

But any EFI motor can lean out and melt if things go wrong

i think all the brands are past that at this point as long as the matiance is done
