My '69 115hp 115983e needs a new bushing on the reverse gear because some one before me ran it dry. I don't want to replace the gear for the sake of a bushing ( the teeth appear o.k.) I can measure the prop shaft but I can't find the oil clearance needed for the new bushing. Besides I've everything I need to do the machine work.

Thanks for the info, this is the type c lower unit, lube is thinner anyway. Measured the prop shaft at 0.998" was hoping 0.002 would be good, will adjust accordingly.

Well, I guess the plot "sickens" I thought OMC just used an oil-lite bushing but I just pressed it out and found that they used a babbitted bearing. Hopefully I can find a replacement.

I would look for other problems such as pump damage to the georotor pump, bearings and lower pinion bearing also.

I'm in the middle of tearing it all down, if I'm understanding everything the forward gear goes into the pump and it's bushing is o.k. I've found one thrust bearing pitted from water. for the $75 I'm considering replacing all of the bearings, once I get the pump out I'll decide where to go.
