Looking for a manual on alpha 1, gen 1 drive. Need to change the impeller pump and some pictures and guidance would be helpful.

nah.. your a guy right ? you dont need a manual..

drain the oil from the lower (and upper) through the bottom hole, remove the trim tab above the prop, 2 nuts in front of that, the 1 nut at the front then the 2 nuts from either side( at the same time) the lower will then drop in your lap.. 4/5 bolts and a screw and you have an impeller.. simple. ..

Good Luck.. you can search for pictures and guides in many places, even here.

Jason,

The manuals were linked here in the Adults Only section, but I've seen a post that the links might be gone.

For a pretty decent look at how to do it, check YouTube. Do a search on Alpha One or Mercruiser Alpha and you should get some hits. I've seen a couple that are good, and pretty accurate since I just did mine last weekend.

Not difficult, but there are a couple of "gotchas" that can cause you trouble.

Good luck!

Thanks guys. Was hoping it wouldn't be too hard. Free labor is better than 100$ an hour.

if yer gonna work on your drive. ya really need to have a service manual. it has all the facts in it that you'll need to service the drive proper. ebay, mercruiser dealer, whoever, wherever.

one of the got ya's i'd think would be torque value on the water pump housing. the nuts are at 60-80 inch lbs. the screw is 30-40 inch lbs.
