Need Transducer for Humminbird Wide View

My understanding is I need a DHS-W to use with the Humminbird Wide View fish finder I got off of a buddy. I also know that I could use the wide side transponder but I think it will only show for the sides but not sure. If anyone has experience with them I would greatly appreciate any help. EDIT Thanks for your help and time and a awesome forum.

I actually bought another garmin but still have the wide view head, why?
