Warning long post
Old guy and have seen many times that gauge readings vary, so if I see a slight reading difference then no issue. And hey @muc talked to a real sharp Merc Tech out of TN
Well ..............
With the new motors you first need to know what you should see and second having Twins makes it easier if you don't know where to start
Have twin Verado 250's and one motor has always shown that it is burning slightly more fuel then the other. Didn't give it much thought because readings are different.
History
Installed a 1stMate man overboard system and it would not shut down the STBD motor. Disconnected and contacted 1stMate and Merc. Even sent email to the Netherlands (place that started the design) and after about a year, Merc says they want to install if I take it to a dealer.
Talked to Merc Tech today and he found that the motor using more fuel needs it's FSM replaced and it is being done under warranty. Will also be replacing the O2 sensor because it's about ready to fail due to over fueling, and will also replace plugs.
The keep alive voltage should be connected at the helm and this is why my vessalview (VV) never shuts down. It always sees 5V so it always has a battery drain and stays awake. Chaparral did not rig it correctly as for this problem. Merc Tech installed Merc VV monitor for free because it is the only way he knew to fix the issue.
VV needs to see less than 5V on the keep alive voltage for it to power down. The line should go up to the helm but mine did not. To fix the issue is install VV mobile kit so with the 2 units at the helm the voltage drops to around 2.5V and it powers down
So if you have a brand new motor and you do not know what you should see on fuel usage, your motor may have an issue which will not show up until after it's out of warranty. My dealer made several runs and said everything is good to go. So in my case the dealer is all about making money and has nothing to do with verifying it's all good
Last note: In my previous thread I mentiond the STBD motor looked like someone had been messing with the motor. My guess is now, someone swapped the FSM on the motor with another and may have figured mine would be caught by the Dealer. I'm glad now I had problems with 1stMate
