No, no.:p I guy just emailed me saying he had a in line 6 bell housing that he thinks will fit a V-6. If it fits a V-6......
Any chance it will fit?

PS an in line-6 would give me a top speed of about 4mph. :%

d:) Ayuh,................d:)

Like I said before,......
A Chevy bellhousing is a Chevy bellhousing.......
From the 2.5l to the Biggest Big Block,......
They're All the Same Bolt Pattern............

The BBCs do have an Extra Bolt, (top center),...... But you Won't Miss it......

Btw,...
I was where I should have been today,+ Forgot to Look,.......
Tomorrow maybe........

NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

Volvo did not use a Chevy 6 with the 290 style drive, so the bellhousing he has is for a Volvo 6, similar to the 4 cylinder rubber band engine.
Won't work for what you want.

Bond-o and Don not on the same page ???

OK how about this email.
What is your preference for 12 3/4" flywheel with double bearings or the 14" which uses a pilot bearing? Both have the same installed dimensions, I think I can come up with either in used.

What would you guys do? I like the idea of not having to use a pilot bearing. Which one is more common? Looking for simple this time. Will the big block (454) have a need for either?

What size is the flywheel on the engine you will be using? If it's a 14", then you can't use a 12 3/4" bellhousing.
The 12 3/4" bellhousings were used with the old style AQ200, 225, 260 etc. When the newer engines with the larger flywheels came out, they made a larger bellhousing. It's just that simple.
It all boils down to what size flywheel you will have.

What I meant when answering the above question is that Volvo didn't use an inline 6 from Chevy, so whatever the guy has will not fit a Chevy.

Well I have not got the motor yet. Should there be something to look for like older Vs younger motors when it comes to size?

I got one laying beside the house in the scrap pile, came off a mid/late eighties 5.7 with center valve cover bolts.
its the older coarse spline, the other is still on the motor a friend picked up but he is not going to use it, I can look in the next few days.

Why would you want to buy parts for something when you don't even know what it is?
Getting something for a good price doesn't really do much good if it doesn't fit.
Or am I just looking at this wrong ?

That would be great. I think I have the course spline now so I would not have to change the yoke on the drive. Knowing the size of the flywheel would be nice also. Last will a small block flywheel work on a big block. Sorry for all the dumb questions but it has been a while since I have worked with a Chevy and never from small to big block.

Re: Need Volvo bell housing

as long as the flywheel fits the ID of the bell housing yes the bolt pattern is the same.
its to dark for me and my half blind self to go measure it tonight :)
but I have no idea what kind of shape its in. its just some stuff I tossed in the pile last summer and the junk man still has not shown up. I have to vacate this property by febuary so its gonna go someplace.

This is where I am at now. I am looking (very hard) at a couple 454 motors. I just don’t want to put myself in a box like I did with the Mopar I have now. I put a ton of money in it and built the motor and then could not find a flywheel that would fit the bell housing for it for about 9 months. So I am almost willing to do it in reverse. Get the bell and then find a motor to match it. But in all honesty I am hoping to find the most common parts of all. That’s why I asked what’s more common of the 2 flywheels. I guess I am asking what’s the most common flywheel size for the Chevy / Volvo bell housing? Will the s/b bell work on the work on a Big Block (its been said yes)? Are small and big block flywheels interchangeable? Then does anyone have a bell housing? And what does it look like and size if so?
A motor will be bought in the next week or so but it would be nice to know if I would be able to find a bell and flywheel to hook it up to my 270 drive with a 280 transom shield to the new b/b before I bought it. If I find out that the motor I bought is of the “newer style that wont work” or something like that I will really kick myself for not finding out ahead of time.

If you have the matching flywheel I will take it. d:)
