Hello all.I'm new to boating and need help from all of you bayliner/volvo experts. I bought a1986 Bayliner with a Volvo Penta 275 outdrive last fall. The original Engine was a 2.3 L but the previous owner replaced it with a Chevy V8(350). I have a few questions. I've attached the picture for question 1.

1. I have read many post here about not being able to lock/unlock their outdrive. My outdrive will not unlock and the problem seems to be that the the locking mechanism(5) when latched, will not let the push rod(3) up high enough so the sleeve will go past the hole where B is pointed. When the outdrive is in the up position, that sleeve is sticking out about 1/2 inch already and actually causes it bind with the plunger(1). Any clue how to fix this?

2. My propeller has a slight play is this normal? I checked the cone shape nut and allen head screw and it's all tight.

3. The prop is stamped with 14 19 R. Is this the best prop to have if I will be pulling a tube and maybe a skier this summer. I have not pushed this boat to get top speed but I can get 40 mph easily and I'm sure it can do more.

Welcome.

!. Your on the right track. Its really hard to guess which part is at fault. take some pics if you can.

2. Slight...is how much? How is the fluid in the outdrive?

3. The only way to tell if its the right prop, is to push it to wide open and see what RPM's you get. If it goes up past 4800, I would say you're underpropped. Ask over in the prop forum.

captmello,
I will take some pictures later and post them. As far as the propeller play, the fluid level is fine. The play I was referring to is between the shaft and the prop itself. So it is not a very tight fit between the shaft splines and the propeller splines.
I will have to get this boat out on the lake again and see if I can get it to wide open throttle. Thanks
