Need wiring diagram

I'm looking for a wiring diagram for my older than dirt 60HP 4cyl SeaKing outboard motor. Unfortunately it doesn't have the original controls so I'm having a heck of a time figuring out the wiring to get it running. I know it ran before I got it and it's got great compression and even the occasional spark but w/o a wiring diagram I'm beating my head against a wall.

I'm bringing it home this afternoon to work on it in the garage so hopefully I'll have serial and model numbers to post tonight or tomorrow. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ok I got the motor home so here's some numbers. Model # is GG18749B Serial # is 26X852294

Re: Need wiring diagram

I would think wiring diagram for any of the omc V4s of that period would work.
you may find it in a service manual at the library.Kencook.com has reprint manuals for lots of omc motors.Brokeboats.com has lots of helps take a look around.

1962 Made by Gale Products Division of OMC. Cousin to Johnson and Evinrudes. I have the diagram, but it's copyrighted. You can buy it at outboardbooks.com

Re: Need wiring diagram

Well, outboardbooks.com just times out every time I try to get to their website and kencook.com has nothing about old manuals so I'm stumped again. I'd be glad to pay for the manual or just the wiring diagram if I could only find the darned thing.

Isn't there a "fair use" doctrine that allows for for excerpts to be used for educational purposes and for discussion as long as attribution is noted? You are not in violation of the copyright laws if it is footnoted or attributed to its source. Think about all those term papers, Free America.com, Fox News stories. Just send the diagram to the guy by private message, he won't tell.

kencook.com requires a little searching but it is there. Also the library is worth a try. Manuals on eBay. Also Brokeboats is an excellent source of information.
Unfortunately some manuals don't have wiring diagrams so be specific before you buy.

Re: Need wiring diagram

I found the link for outboard manuals on kencook.om but yet again I run into a dead page. It times out just like outboardbooks.com does. I bought a manual that claim to cover the years and HP range of motors like mine but it's not much help I'm afraid. If I can just get the wiring diagram I could at least get started in trouble shooting this thing. I have no intention of publishing or selling any of the info and if I can't find anywhere to buy it how can there be a copyright violation? I promise to keep any private communications secret.;)

Re: Need wiring diagram

Hang in there and I'll redraw it so it isn't a copy. Check back this evening.

Save your time on redrawing it, but the very definition, it will be a copy. That does not exempt one from the copyright laws you fear so much. Copying directly from sources without attribution never stopped the professor from blue lining my term papers.:D Just PM the thing to him as an attachment.

Re: Need wiring diagram

Redraw, attachment, anything is fine by me at this point.:D

I think I've finally found the right book thanks to steelspike but it doesn't list my exact model number. They list GG18749A and 49C but not the 49B which is what's stamped on my motor. On the plus side the other 2 model numbers come up w/ the same service manual so hopefully it's the same for mine. http://tinyurl.com/3aodlv

In the meantime while I wait for shipping w/ my fingers crossed that it has what I need. I'd still love a copy of the wiring diagram, be it hand drawn or scanned so I can maybe get some progress made. I promise to commit the schematics to memory and promptly destroy the copy.:p

There will be a "Burn Notice" issued on you if you fail to do so.:D

Re: Need wiring diagram

I found the manual I bought last year when I first got the boat and motor and it went into "storage" out at the inlaws. Wouldn't you know it, it's for 1969 and newer so I bought the wrong darned book. I seem to recall paying $30+ for it as well. That certainly explains why it wasn't much help.:p

Re: Need wiring diagram

Since I can't show you, I will tell you:

Ignition Switch: (Must have two M terminals)
1. First M terminal black wire goes to screw on side of magneto.
2. Second M terminal black wire goes to ground on powerhead
3. S terminal goes to either of the small posts on starter solenoid
4. B terminal goes to one terminal on choke switch
5. A terminal not normally used

Choke Switch:
1. Green wire goes to B on ignition switch. Second green wire goes to Battery post side of starter solenoid.
2. Red wire goes to choke solenoid on motor

Starter Solenoid:
1. Either large post, red cable to battery (+). The green wire from the choke solenoid also connects here.
2. Other large post, red cable to starter motor.
3. Either small post, white wire to ignition switch
4. Other small post, white wire to safety switch on magneto bracket

Battery (-) is grounded to junction box base and powerhead.

Brown, yellow, and blue wires are only used when generator kit is installed.

Any questions, ask

Re: Need wiring diagram

Sorry, Burroak. We disagree.

Discussion and education are not included in "avoidance of purchase". I am sensitive to that because my copyright was violated by a school that made that claim. They lost.

Noah, the "A", "B", and "C" are run numbers of the same model. Differences would be trivial.

I sympathize with you for your loss. It was a loss, wasn't it? I mean the intellectual property that was taken from you must have had great value to support a law suit. Did you bring suit for monetary damages or was it just vanity?

Re: Need wiring diagram

I was receiving modest royalties on the book. The school ran off 50 copies of it to avoid buying.

My employer/publisher complained and was reimbursed.

Stealing is stealing.

If vanity was involved I was flattered that they wanted it that bad. If there had been a loss it would have been trivial. My techniques were well known and the book was cheap enough.

Why do I doubt the sincerity of your sympathy?

If you think your situation is the same as a 40 year old wiring diagram that could have been PM'ed without any fanfare as a one time occurrance, then I doubt your sincerity, sir.
