Your s/n comes up as:

80 80/800 4-cyl 5582562 5987160 1981 USA

From here:

http://www.marinshopen.se/Motorer/O...Mercury2takt4cyl4085hp/tabid/487/Default.aspx

Parts listing;

http://www.crowleymarine.com/mercury-outboard/678.cfm

OEM Service Manual P/N: 90-86134--4

In the interim, here is a condensed version of the Clymer manual, which will help you get started. Let th page load for several seconds and then download soonest to your computer as the link is short lived.

Re: Need year and manual

I appreciate everyones responses. I ordered one from Barnes and Noble. It was the cheapest I could find.

I am not 100% sure it is the coils, It was a young guy I bought the boat from and now sure if he knew what he was doing.

He moved away so his mom was selling it for him and she didnt have a key so I have to get it re-keyed. Would it be easier to have it re-keyed or just buy another ignition switch for it?

I wont be able to test the motor until I get that done first, Correct?

Webbie, A Merc Dealer will likely have a key for it in stock. There are only a few keys for all the MerControls.

I appreciate it. I just called one and they can do it for $7-$10, so I guess I will carry the boat there.
