I purchased an outboard engine from a friend's father. He said that he thought it was a 115hp but not sure of the year/make. The cover has been repainted so you cannot read it on the cover. I thought that someone here may know where else it may be located. I was going to chacnge out the plugs and plug wires, but they are not anything like the plug wires on my '83 Johnson. The plug wires run from the plug into a small green triangular shaped part on the boat. There a four plugs. I'm not sure what else to tell you, I'm not a engine expert, as you can tell. If you need any other info, PLEASE ask... would really like to get the specs on this engine. ohyeah829@aol.com

Hi,
Take some digital photos on the outboard, one on outside where whole outboard can be seen and then take the cowl off and take pictures of right and left side of the engine.

To post a picture You must have some storage room on FTP or similar on the internet and then make a link to the file using the Full Reply Form.

Unfortunately I don't have access to a digital camera...where would the model number or serial number be? This may help. Also, what is a V line mean?? Thanks!!

Found the ID plate, it was on the side of the transom clasp.

Serial number: J4322815
Model number: 115ESL75E

They had been painted over, too. But I think I made them out. Plus, I noticed a thin pin stripe, that had been painted over, @ the top of the lower unit It was red, white and blue, if that helps any.

Ok. If looking @ the engine from the side, the carbs are stacked. Running from left to right. Thanks

The J at the beginning of the Ser# says Johnson.

115 is HP
ESL is Electric Start, Long shaft.
75 is model year.
E is a manufacturing code that is of no use to us.

I looked it up in my memory cells. Sometimes being old has advantages.
