hey i'm having a little bit of trouble with my motor. I have a 1970's 20hp johnson motor this motor sat up for about 5 years when i got this motor. all i done to it is clean out the carburetor and third pull she cranked. but while i was cleaning it out there was a little peice of like leather in the carburetor i pulled that peice out. the motor runs now but it aint got no power to it won't even bring a 14ft flat bottom out the hole. the motor sounds like it is sucking air i believe what i pulled out is some kind of gasket cause the motor olny runs when the lean and rich switch is run all the way in not allowing any gas to it. i believe that im getting gas from maybe that gasket not being in there and when i try to let gas in it goes dead not real sure whats going on just wanted to check with people and see if i might be right

Re: needing a little help

Lets start with the model number, that way we can look up the proper parts breakdown and look at your carb.

That's a 1962, 18hp. When you "cleaned the carb" did you take it off and take it apart? Did you install a carb kit? If not, then you need to do that.
