Hello. I am looking for some tips to restore the boat to as close to as I remember. Dad had sold the boat to my father in law and he left it outside for about 3 years. Long enough to ruin the bench seats. I am thinking the origional bench seating was made from mohogany. Is this correct? What other wood could I use?

Oak is used a lot. I just put Red Oak seats in a canoe last year. I think Red Oak, either red or white, one is good, one is not near as good. Cedar works too. Either one needs to be sealed.
