Checked online at some places for parts for a '71 Johnson 100 HP motor (100ESL71C) and so far of waht I need I can only find an impeller, carb rebuild kits, points, and spark plug wires.

I also need a distributor cap and rotor and thermostat, and likely some other misc parts I can't think of off the top of my head as well. Anyone know where I can get these parts?

Search up TwinCity Outboards or ishopmarine. They might be able to help. From what I see, BRP still has the distributor and rotor still avaiable. Set you back a little over $200.

I have a few bookmarked sites where you can find those parts. I'll post them tomorrow when I'm home.

Do you need the cap and rotor or are you replacing them as part of a tune up routine? They are pricey, and never routinely replaced unless there was a problem with them.

Maybe just do the other stuff and see how she runs.

DHP

Re: Needs parts for '71 100 HP Johnson...

I need the cap for sure as the inside ring that the rotor sparks to is cracked in several spots. It is a badly worn piece and in my automotive experience totally unacceptable for reliable use.

Motor does run though. Idled it in the driveway today and it started up and ran pretty smoooth at fast idle then back down to normal idle. I'd be nervous taking it out on the Delaware or the bay with this cap. Seems like a failure waiting to happen. Just don't trust it given how badly cracked it seemed to be.

Thanks for the tip about ishopmarine.com. They have a lot of parts available there that I have been unable to find elsewhere. Also they have some nice diagrams. Looks like a cap and rotor will be $176. If that's what it needs then that's what it needs. I'm looking at about $300 in parts to get this motor back into seaworthy condition. Not bad for a free boat, eh?
