just for fun , on saturday, i put my recently aquired mighty mite in the barrel to see if it would run, five or six pulls....nothing, ( the boot was on the plug, but the lead wasnt attached to the plug). put the lead on, and first pull it ran great. it doesnt appear to have any tell tale ? i ran it for 45 minutes without issue, and could start it without the rope no problem after it warmed up, is there a tell tale on that little motor? ( it doesnt look like it, it just has a copper feed tube up from the pump, and what appears to be an outlet copper tube right back down to the anti cav plate?

No pee hole on that motor. And don't get any bright ideas about drilling one, either. If you do, it won't cool properly. That motor has a centrifugal water pump and the second water tube is to create a siphon effect. In other words, the weight of the water going up one tube equals the weight of the water going down the other tube. Being in a state of balance like that means the water pump doesn't have to constantly be pushing water "uphill". But if you drill a hole, you destroy the siphon.

The pump has a metal impeller, so nothing to wear or rot out. Nothing much to go wrong with it other than getting plugged up with mud or something. Oft times, they don't cool well in a barrel, but yours must have been. I remove the propeller when running in a barrel, then it will be fine.

thanks F_R, i thought about taking the prop off, but the motor idled down to barely running, and i let it run , turned hard to port, spinning the water in the barrel, it must be pumping as it ran for 45 minutes....noisy little thing tho!!! lol

Those little Mighty Mites are cool little motors. A good part of one's collection. I read a thing about those motors being built by a lot of "home assemblers" in their time. I sure would have loved to had an opportunity like that. :D

it is a cool little motor, light as a feather, an "oddball" turquoise color, the tiniest prop ive ever seen on anything other than an rc model. i think its a keeper! i read an article also, about some of those motors being assembled by seniors.....cant recall if was "at home" tho. too bad robots do most of the work now! lol

Yea, they are tiny. Wait till you see the prop on a 1940 Evinrude Mate or Ranger. LOL
