Neutra Salt question

Picked up a Vovo Neutra Salt kit for $90 on clearance. I'm always trailered and been flushing with hose/muffs & SaltAway or Salt-X or whatever I get on sale, but the neutra salt seems much more handy, especially on the days returning at 3am from night fishing runs and not wanting to run the boat in the driveway...

Read a lot of posts about the neutra salt kits, seems like it will work well, but what about the outdrive not getting flushed now since the kit splices in @ the motor?

First off, what engine and drive do you have?

Re: Neutra Salt question

The kit is basically designed for use with the boat "IN the water" it does nothing for the drive in or out of the water. But does take care of everything after the raw water pump.
The reason I ask about what engine and drive is that some people want to try to use it with a drive that has the raw water pump in the drive (Alpha, Cobra, stringer). The Neutra salt will not work at all with those kinds of drives.

Gotcha. Yeah no impeller in the drive here.

OK, how about this, would it possible to reverse flush the drive if I rig up a valve & hose fitting in the supply line? Basically flush with the neutrasalt in the water, then when getting home turn a valve to block intake to the engine & just hook up a hose...?

Just trying to avoid running the engine @ 3am in the driveway, & more times than not the washdowns @ the ramp are out of service....

Just trying to avoid running the engine @ 3am in the driveway,

Wait till morning and/or when you get home, then flush. That few hours isn't going to make any kind of a noticable difference

Heh - kinda knew that was comin ;) Probabaly will just do that....but if I decide to embark on this adventure, it still 'would' be possible to reverse flush this drive unit without any probs no?

Gonna install the neutrasalt anyway, looks real handy for the multi-day runs to the island where the boat's moored for a couple/few days....

Re: Neutra Salt question

iYou won't be gaining anything by flushing the drive if it's still in the water. As soon as you stop flushing the salt water comes back. The good thing, as long as it's in the water it's not a big problem. When it comes out of the water and the salt drys for weeks and months is when the problem occurs.
Flush the engine with the NS system at the dock. Trailer the boat and reflush the engine and drive the next morning. Not close to enough time to cause problems.

Re: Neutra Salt question

Agree on flushing the drive in the water wouldn't help much...

I was thinking a 'lil diff: .... after boating, on the trailer but still in the water, flush with the neutrasalt system & shut down. Then when I get home just turn a valve to shut off intake flow to the engine, hook a hose to the line somehow via some fitting & reverse flush the drive w/o having to run the engine.... if that makes any sense?

Maybe I'm just overcomplicating things

Absolutely

hook a hose to the line somehow via some fitting & reverse flush the drive w/o having to run the engine

There is your problem, you have salt water on the intake side and exhaust side. With the engine running you would get more NS thru the exhaust because the water would be pushed all over the exhaust passages, whereas with the hose, you would get the lower portion of the exhaust ports in the Y and the drive, but not the upper. Gravity makes the water fall to the bottom whereas the exhaust (with engine running) makes it go everywhere.

Re: Neutra Salt question

Roger that. Points well taken, thanks for the insight, didn't quite think through the exaust side as much as the h20 intake...

I'll still install the NS system since I already have it, but will refush in the AM via muffs for those night fishing runs. Two flushes can't hurt any :p ...

Thanks again Don, appreciate the input!!
