Neutral adjustment

2008 Mercury 50hp ELPTO has a little bit of a grind in neutral and the shift cable at the engine is adjusted all the way out. It did not do this last year. Can it be adjusted at the throttle end?

Look for an adjustment of the shift rod.----Perhaps a bit more down motion.-----Was lower unit off for water pump work ?

Lats year I changed the impeller and didn't need adjusting. It won't take much, I unhooked the shifting rod and checked it manually but the barrel is adjusted as far back as it will go.

You need to look at the SHIFTROD that goes to the lower unit.----Look for adjustment there.------Lower unit repair cost can be shocking so get it checked / set-up by your trusted local shop.-----I think the coupler ITEM # 13 is way out of adjustment.
