Neutral Lockout Problem

I just picked up a 1983 SeaRay with a Mercruiser 5.0 and Alpha I. I took the boat out for the first time and when I put it in drive it would stall. Sometimes I would have to shift back and forth until it would start. Then when it does start and I get it in gear w/o stalling it will run for about 10 minutes then just shut off. It feels like it's electrical not a fuel issue.

So my questions is does this sound like the neutral lockout rocker switch on top of the motor? I see a bunch on ebay for different prices how do I know which on to buy? Also are they hard to install and can it be done at the dock?

Thanks for any help.....

Sounds like lower shift cable going bad and causing shift interupt switch to stall motor.

How can I tell if it's the switch or the shift cable? The only reason I am suspect is the motor is just shutting off every 10-15 minutes and I am not having problems getting it out of gear.
