Does anyone know how to increase the throttle in neutral on a 1994 Wellcraft Excel? I just bought the boat and there was no operators manual. I tried pushing the "button" in the center of the rotation point of the throttle handle and pulling it out and pushing the handle forward to rev the engine but the handle would not move forward. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

We'll need to know what motor/drive this boat has. I will then most this thread to the appropriate repair forum.

The Boat has the Mercury 3.0 LX (140 hp I believe) with a Mercruiser i/o stern drive

try pushing the center button but NOT pulling it out sideways.
It should also rev in "reverse" so try that direction (which is also a good thing to have with a cranky motor and an emergency; you can move from revved into gear in one motion.)

Re: Neutral on a 1994 Wellcraft Excel 18sx

Well I tried everything I could think of last night and still have not been able to figure out how to increase the throttle in neutral. I tried pushing the button, pulling the shifter out, leaving it in, going forward, pulling the throttle back in reverse, and I could not get it to work. I am starting to think the shifter might be broken, when I pull it out the top comes away from the side of the boat about 1/4" more than the bottom. Any thoughts would be appreciated, here are some pictures of my specific shifter, it is a little different than the shifter that was shown in the manual.

Thanks

That is an OMC shifter if I'm not mistaken, it's not Mercruiser.
Doesn't really matter though, the button should push in, did you try wiggling the shifter in neutral to see if there was one spot you could push the button in at?
If it won't push in, there is probably something wrong with the control itself.

Don,
The Button pushes in, the shifter just will not move out of the neutral position while it is in, unless I squeeze the red portion of the handle and shift it into gear.

I have the same boat, with 3.0LX i/o. Same control as well. I have to push my button in, squeeze the read button and move either forward or reverse to get throttle only. Lately though starting in a throttle only is working only in reverse direction with throttle only, and not in forward like it used to. Also having issues with getting a smooth shift into forward. (sorry for hijacking thread a bit)

Thanks for reminding me about this, I think my Throttle control is shot. Can anyone recommend a good replacement control system, that will fit my boat?
