neutral safety switch

can someone please help me locate the neutral safety switch on a 1971 johnson 60hp hydroelectric shift motor. Is it in the control box or on the motor somewhere? If I understand correctly I should be albe to ground the switch in order to bypass it, to see if the motor will then start. I am suspecting that the switch is faulty, preventing the starter from engaging. Thanks.

In the strict sense of the word, it doesn't have a neutral safety switch. But it does have a throttle-operated safety switch. It is on top of the cylinder block, actuated by the timer base as it rotates back and forth when you advance/retard the throttle. A white wire from the solenoid goes to it.

one white wire comes from your ignition switch & to solenoid on the other end of the solenoid there is a white wire too , that wire goes into a safety switch witch is bridged inside going to earth if the bridge is broken the solenoid will not click in , you can remove the switch & connect that wire to the block direct , that will then be the earth for solenoid with the other white wire bridging with the positive in the ignition switch when you turn it to start mode
