2006 75 hp mercury optimax would not run wide open. Only up to 4300 rpm. And alarm would go off continuously. Changed water pump because needed it any way. Still same thing. Mechanic finally got a code in shop and said it was neutral safety switch -replaced and carried out and ran fine but I tested replaced switch and seems ok. I understand that this switch only keeps from cranking when in gear. Unsure if that was the problem but may have moved something that got it going. Question is how could this switch cause a problem after boat is in gear and moving??
