Hi all, I'm trying to fix a 1994 Regal 182 with 4.3 and Volvo SX drive. The Neutral switch is broken and is located in the throttle/shift lever assm.

I have the manual for the throttle but it does not list the PN of the switch. I do have the PN for the complete throttle assm and it is 3851036-8. I called Volvo tech with this info but they did not know what the unit was. I also sent a picture to Volvo but still no help from Volvo.

Here are some pictures.

Cherry switch makes those type of switches. The hard part is going to be to find the right switch since there are 100's of types.

Here is an example:

http://www.cherrycorp.com/english/switches/submini/da.htm

What are the numbers on the switch itself. Can you post a picture that is more of a close up with higher resolution?

I have that same control and have had problems with the neutral start on it. Have had to adjust the tension of the roller bar as well as adust the switch position in its mounting holes.

An electronics supply place might be able to get that switch.

If you want to find a replacement switch you will need this info:

1) Is is NC or NO
2) Current rating
3) Length of the bar to the roller
4) Size of the roller
5) Dimension of the mouting holes from each other

Most electronic suppliers won't help you so you will have to go to the manuf websites and figure out the part number yourself and then go out and see what you can find.

Since there are so many variations of switches, finding a supplier with stock will be the fun part so you need to get part# info from various manufacturers like Cherry and ITT.

i hunt down a lot of parts like this to repiar really costly machines with NLA parts and if you have to charge for the time invoved in finding it :(

It becomes cheeper to replace the unit at 200 dollars

tommays

I agree with Tommays.

I am an electrical engineer and have access to many suppliers so for me it is not as hard as it is for you and it is still a major job.

Hi all, thanks for the info. I did not know it was going to be so hard the find the switch.

Regarding the picture of the switch, that's is good as it gets with the old camera I have at work.

I think I will check the link above and maybe try a few quick searches, if no luck then it looks like a new control will be in the works.

Take care, Dale
