Neutral switch?

Hi, I am looking to go se a boat for sale not far from my home and it looks good and all, it is a 1979 rinker 19.6 ft.open bow, with a mercruiser<br />120 i/o. the only problem the guy says it has wrong with it is that the neutral switch neds to be fixed. What is this? and what does it control ?

It's called the "Neutral Safety Switch,... <br />It's usually found in the control box,... <br />It Allows the motor to Start, Only in Neutral,...... Not In Gear.......

he may also be refering to the shift interrupt switch. in which case you could have a large can o worms. unless its a giveaway price ask to see it idle and shift in the water as well as turn 3800-4000 for a 20-30 min run.
