Just seeing if someone else has bought this boat for less that 14995 and how hard I need to battle with the salesman. The 14995 price includes Searay's 1K rebate ont he boat. Thanks

Re: New 04' searay 180 $14995 decent deal??

I would imagine that this is with the 3.0l.. From what I have seen this sounds like a good price however, I would think about the 3.0l issue on an 18footer. I have a 17ft (actually 16+ overall) with the 3.0l and am very happy with it. But my selection criteria may be different than yours. The 18footer would probably be too big for the 3.0l in my view.

I got a 18' Sea Ray 180 Bowride with a 3.0L and works like a champ. Tow tubes and skiers....no problem.

Have you heard of any issues?

I know alot of people say to get all you can in it and I understand that. I do that with my motorcycles. I use my 16 footer about 10 times a year for the wife and I to tool around the lake on. If I want to go fast, my Suzuki will take me over the triple digit without blinking. My boat if for simple relaxation and bouncing on the waves. One reason I like the 3.0 is that it's as easy to work on as an old bike engine. Thanks for your input. Do you think I could get the dealer to move on that price at all? He tells me he has 3 in stock.

Sounds like our criteria is very similar. Easy to work on and good gas mileage.

Heck I have fun tooling around on my friends late 70's Larson with 70Hp evinrude. Or even a 14' with 9.9 hp.

I just wouldn't want someone to be disappointed. Brand new boat and I can't tow my big butt brother on skis with 11 people in the boat.

As far as the Sea ray is concerned, that is what I have, albeit much older. I love it. If you can move him, great, althoght that sounds like a good price considering what the Bayliner, Stingray, and glastrons are offering which are 17 footers in their low dollar packages. Sea Ray is more expensive and probably has more features like power steering which isn't always included on the 3.0l package. I say try to move him, and go for it.. Your not getting screwed.

I would highly suggest that you take a look at the Glastron MX 175. This boat is about $1000 cheaper and is only 6 inches shorter but is wider. The hull uses VEC technology. The thing that I like is that it uses Volvo Penta outdrive and from what I have heard, this is a much better outdrive because it uses a cone clutch and you won't get the Mercruiser clunk when shifting.

Looks wise, Sea Ray is better, but I want something less frilly and easy to clean. I plan on buying one this weekend, but will give Sea Ray another look at the boat show given their incentive. Thanks for price update.

Re: New 04' searay 180 $14995 decent deal??

I'll check out that MX. Thanks. Here's another ingrediant to the mix. I called and got a price on an 05' SR 180. This included all the covers and a Bimini top and snap-in carpet. They are giving me a first quote of 16350. The 04' SR 180 hasthe same except the Bimini top and their first quote is 14995. Is it worth my time to mess around with the 05'. The 05' is two more hours away that the 04'. The 04' dealer is local. Thanks again!

kozman, the '05 searay will come with key start on the 3.0L, where the '04 came with throttle start. The local dealer will be happy to quote and '05 in your trim level, decide what trim is important to you and your family. With two dealers in two hours you are in a very competitive marketplace, so you will get the best price.

If your local dealer still has 3 '04s in stock & other nearby dealers are selling '05s, I'd guess he'd be pretty motivated to clear out his old stock. Suspect you might be able to negotiate a very good deal on the '04.

Might be worth mentioning to him that you can get the '05 with the top for only $1350 more. Don't know how much the top is worth, but point out the immediate difference in resale value you'd have a newer model year, even if everything is identical between the 2 boats (hours, condition, etc.). Might even be worth checking the NADA guides (or whatever the boat equivalent is) to see what the suggested price difference is between two used boats, exact same model but one a year newer.
