Thanks to all who helped me a few months ago with decisions re new boat+motor. I got a Sea Hunt 186 CC with a 115 Rude. The hull is a beut and handles the chop great but I'm frustrated with the rude. I've had it in twice already for the same prob and each time they say it's fixed but it's not. It will run fine at the start of a day but later will start but cut off after a few seconds. If I quickly put it in gear and run it will stutter.Revving in neutral might help but it's hard to tell since it always gets going eventually. It also seems to vibrate more than it used to at low speed (5-18mph)Really a drag at the landing or with a skier for a 20 hr old motor. Any hints I can share with my service crew?

Your description brings up a bright sign which reads "Carbs Rebuild Time."

Sorry I neglected to mention this is a 2003 and so it is FICT -no carbs. We thought it a key switch problem at first- the mechanic said there is a design problem with them. But I think I would see at least a flutter in the gas gauge when it dies since that gauge does not work unless the key is in"run"position.

Sorry to hear about your problems regarding the new motor. I've been looking at a new boat with either the same engine you have or the Yamaha 115 four stroke.. Now that you've used the boat for a while would you recommend (minus the trouble you are having) the rude?? Do you think this engine would cope with trolling??

P.S. What kind of speed are you getting with you with your combo?

Re: New 115 rude cutting off

I can get up to low 40's perhaps 42,43 with one other person on flat water, the hull is very deep and 2000lbs. This motor seems pretty good for all round use- I haven't trolled with it yet but it seems to run well at low speed(in between cutting off episodes which my dealer is working on hopefully as we speak). It does not smoke like other 2 strokes and gets gas mileage about like a 4 stroke. It has better low end tourque than a 4 stroke which is good for skiers. Best of all it has a 7 year non declining warranty.
