I will be purchasing a new Targa 185 SC this fall. The dealer tells me the 115 OptiMax will push this to 40 MPH. Is he in the ballpark or is the 150 required?
Budget wise I am looking at the 115 OptiMax, 150 V6 EFI (those tow cost about the same) or 150 OptiMax (costs about 2 grand more)

Re: New 185 Targa SC

I have an 07' Targa 185 Ski and Fish with the 150 Optimax and can do 47 mph on the GPS. Don't know if this will help you out or not. I am glad I got the 150 though I think I would be disappointed with a smaller engine.

Well I didn’t end up with a SC model – got a good deal on a ’07 185 WT with a 150 optimax Merc. I pick it up today:)

Re: New 185 Targa SC

I paid 24,000
2007 185 WT Targa
2006 carry over 150 optimax
12v 55# Minnkota powerdrive
Lowrance X47
AM/FM/CD w/MP3 jack
onboard charger
4 seats
cover
trailer
stainless prop
I got it just before winter here in KS so have only had it out twice to check things out. Had to have a new sending unit for the gas tank installed. Bilge pump was not installed correctly. Vinly around the floor storage lid had to be reglued.
That 150 opti is a real motor - jumps up on plane RFN! Love it

Glad to hear about the motor..Sounds like the boat is sub-par though.

I got exactly what the website said was the price. They would not budge for me. But I did get $1000 bass pro shop gift cert. The boat has been great nothing but the normal fit and finish problems you get with any boat.

Re: New 185 Targa SC

The pricing I got was due to the time of the year at our local dealer (which is also a Tracker dealer)
The boat was an 07 and the motor was an 06.
I'm happy - I agree that the fit and finish is about normal.
all I need now is spring weather - supposed to get some snow again this coming weekend
